How to Choose the Right Box of Chocolates
Sometimes I make lunch for my
husband, a sandwich if he wants it, and I don't make one for me because I think
I'm not hungry. But then after it's made
and put on a plate, it starts to look more appealing. Just to be sure, I take a bite before I
present it to him, leaving a perfect half-circle mark as evidence. I call it sharing. He just tolerates it. So when I shopped for the right box of
chocolates to give him for Valentine's Day, I read the box with my own tastes
in mind. I stood in an aisle with about
six other women looking at heart‑shaped boxes that not only seemed ridiculously
overpriced, but looked rather tasteless too. The good old fashioned kind seem to have made way for a tacky new variety. The whole aisle even smelled bad, like stale
chocolate. I gave up on the heart shapes
and went to the regular candy aisle where there are plain boxes of chocolates. Good chocolates, I mean, that do not resemble
any silly characters or smell stale. They
just don't come in a heart shape. Big
deal. Just to be sure I'd made the right
selection, one was missing when I gave it to him. In fact, several more are missing now. At least he'll never have to worry about
being poisoned. Be sure you never give a
gift you wouldn't want to sample yourself. Happy Valentine's Day.
